lye and floor soap

A lye may be used indoors for new and sanded floors. It stops the natural patination and gives the floor a beautiful and light appearance. Lye primed wood floor may be soaped with floor soap. The soap forms a membrane that protects the wooden floor against grease, dirt and depletion.

You can choose between natural or white floor soap.

Lye may be used indoors for new sanded floors. The surface must be clean, dry and smooth before application of lye. Shake the container well and pour the lye into a plastic bucket and stir regularly during application to get a uniform finish. Stir the lye regularly during the work.

Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.  

Apply the lye using brush, mop or roller in an even coat on the floor lengthwise. Use plenty of lye and draw the excess lye off lengthwise. On vertically mounted woodwork, apply from top to bottom.  Lye primed wood floor may after a drying time of approx. 6 hours at 20° C (the wood must be completely dry) be soaped with Natural Soap. Sand the floor lightly. After the lye finish the floors is very delicate. Soap as soon the floor is dry.

Bleach your wooden floor only one time otherwise the end-result may be greenish!

Soap finish to protect wooden floors.

Our natural soap is a concentrated soap with wax.

Wood has pores and those pores will get clogged with dirt and oils from use if not protected. Soap builds a membrane when it is regulary used and that protects the wooden floor against dirt, grease and depletion.

Wood also benefits by have a finish that slows the exchange of moisture from the wood to the surrounding atmosphere, thus keeping it more stable.

Shake the container well. First wash: disolve one part soap in two parts of lukewarm water. Wash the floor lengthwise and wipe the floor with a cloth wrung in soapy water. Let the floor dry for at least 20 minutes. Second wash: disolve 300ml soap in 1000ml lukewarm water and wash the floor lengthwise. Let the floor dry for 2-4 hours and polish it.

To maintain the floor mix 100ml soap in 1000ml lukewarm water and wash the floor lengthwise.
